Board of Directors

The National Affordable Housing Board of Directors comprises highly-qualified professionals representing a range of skills, industries and services appropriate and complimentary to the facilitation of social and affordable housing outcomes. The Directors operate across all Boards within the NAH Group – National Affordable Housing, National Affordable Housing Victoria and BuyAssist Australia.

Karen Smith-Pomeroy

NAH Chair since 2019, Director since 2011

Karen has over 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector, holding senior executive roles within large financial services organisations. She has significant experience in risk and governance and extensive experience working with a wide range of companies across the property and infrastructure sectors nationally. Karen also currently holds a range of other board roles across different sectors.
Michael Schaumburg

Director since 2020

Michael is a chief executive and project director with three decades of varied experience in the infrastructure and resources sectors and industry development. Michael has an accomplished track record of growing organisations efficiently, effectively and delivering complex major projects to deliver significant shareholder value.
Peter Wells

Director since 2020

Peter is an experienced public and private sector executive, board director and university lecturer with a demonstrated history of working across government, industry and consulting. Peter’s career includes significant executive and board leadership experience and he has achieved major results in key roles. With a background in large scale customer service, regulation, urban planning, transport, environment, infrastructure and managing large operational functions, Peter has also developed and implemented major reforms.
Scott King

Director since 2020

Scott is a seasoned professional with extensive strategic and operational experience, particularly at Board and Executive levels. His expertise spans the full spectrum of corporate and retail strategy, and he has also helped navigate Board and Management teams through periods of change.
Linda Hoskins

NAHV Chair since 2020

Linda has over 30 years’ experience working in the community, health and government sectors. She has held many Non-Executive Director roles throughout her career including on community, Arts and social enterprise boards. She has owned and run her own IT consultancy practice since 2012 focussed on not for profit, for purpose organisations. Linda has significant experience in the community housing sector, and a depth of knowledge of the machinations of government, both policy and practice. Board culture, practice, and corporate governance are of particular interest to her.
Kerry Stubbings

Director since 2022

Kerry has over 30 years of experience in executive roles in the Victorian Local Government sector, not-for-profit service organisations and the Victorian State Government. Her responsibilities have included the planning and provision of a diverse range of community focused services in such areas as children and family services, health, recreation, arts, housing, social planning, and community engagement. Her focus on supporting affordable housing have included building a policy environment for local councils to support the provision of social and affordable housing opportunities in local communities, as well as supporting tenant engagement programs in the public housing sector. Kerry holds board director roles in the public health sector in Victoria and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Samantha Challinor

Director since 2023

Samantha is an experienced board director and Committee Chair with proven expertise in governance, financial and risk management. She engages with peers, stakeholders, and management to influence and negotiate positive organisational outcomes and ensure strong stakeholder engagement. Samantha has over 20 years’ experience in senior accounting and leadership roles, and is adept at bringing financial, information technology, risk and project management oversight and governance to organisations through commercial experience in the technology industry, Not-for-profit and public health Government sectors.

Brad Hosking

Chief Executive Officer

Brad Hosking took up the position of CEO at National Affordable Housing in November 2023. Prior to commencing with NAH he was the Corporate Director at Common Equity Housing Limited (CEHL), Australia’s largest Community Housing Provider by assets, where he managed a broad portfolio across the areas of finance, risk, real estate and organisational development; including human resources, information technology and communications. In addition to acting as CEHL’s CFO he was also the Company Secretary. Brad brings a diverse range of skills and experiences to NAH though his previous roles in construction and development finance, property and risk management, and business development, gathered through executive and senior management positions within the Suncorp Group, ANZ Bank, Swinburne University and the Planning Institute of Australia.

Hariet Brummelhuis

Chief Operating Officer

Hariet has more than 15 years’ experience in executive roles in the human services sector, including 10 years in social and affordable housing across QLD and NSW, and various roles in organisations providing aged care, disability support, child safety and family support services. Hariet is a corporate services professional with strengths in corporate governance, risk and compliance, human resources, finance, strategy, leadership, business development and transformation. Hariet is values driven and committed to providing outcomes that meet the needs of the community.
Julie Laughton

General Manager – Portfolio Investment & Delivery

Julie is a purpose driven senior executive financial officer with financial and corporate services leadership experience across diverse industries including technology, commercial development, government and not-for-profit. Julie has built and supported innovative businesses to establish, develop, and achieve success in local and international markets. Julie is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) and has a depth of experience across strategy and investment planning, development of highly effective business models, financial analysis, and performance reporting. As a values driven professional, Julie has held Executive and Non-Executive Director roles with prominent not-for-profit organizations.
Adam Spee

Chief Financial Officer

Adam is a values driven professional and joined NAH in October 2019. Adam has more than 15 years of experience in public and private sector accounting positions, including 10 years in Public Sector Taxation and Audit. Adam has significant audit experience in the not-for-profit sector in the Housing, Education, Medical, Redundancy Trust and Disability services. For profit and private sector experience extends to Large Retail, Metal Fabrication, Construction and Property Development, Financial Investment, Mining and Waste Management industries. Adam has completed the Chartered Accountants Program and has 13 years of experience as a Director.
Kate Breen

BuyAssist Program Manager

Kate is the current part-time program manager of BuyAssist. Kate has extensive experience in State Governments and the private sector, and has advised a range of public, private and not-for-profit entities on the inclusion of affordable housing within major projects. Kate assisted NAH establish the 'Vic100' shared equity grant program in 2018 and is now supporting the team to secure and deliver on new initiatives - supporting more people into sustainable and affordable home ownership.
